Rapid City, SD is over 700 miles away and I need to get there today. No problem, right? Continue reading Ride West, Ride Hard, Ride Far
Category Archives: Road Tales
In a fast-paced world where most long journeys are viewed from 20,000+ feet in a jet airliner, we miss out on the detail afforded by the low viewing angle of a motorcycle saddle. In this category I have stored a collection of interesting experiences gleaned from years of motorcycle touring. Each tale may describe a multi-week trip, a single day, or one sublime instant. Some tales even have photographic evidence. While I post these tales largely for my own amusement, I have been told they have inspired some to try motorcycle touring. If so, then that seems like a useful purpose. May they help you realize that the universe still holds many thoughts to consider, humor to be enjoyed, and wonders to behold.
Tearing Myself Away to Ride
It was time to point a Bike towards a long-running annual Par-Tay out west, but life was doing it’s best to get in the way. Continue reading Tearing Myself Away to Ride

2017 MAMMARY Run
Having returned home, momentarily, after my trip out to California, I now had to pack right up and continue east to the next party. In spite of the name, this party does not involve gratuitous exposure of the upper female naughty bits (so much the pity). Continue reading 2017 MAMMARY Run
Home in a Hurry, A Wet Part 4
All I had was another 500+ miles to ride to get home for a day before venturing onward with Karen to the next party. Unfortunately, there was a weather system to fight through to get there. Continue reading Home in a Hurry, A Wet Part 4
Home in a Hurry, Part 3
Compared to the excellent scenery and high drama of the trip so far, this day was absolutely boring, but effective. Continue reading Home in a Hurry, Part 3
Home in a Hurry, Part 2 (through snow?)
The second day of a four-day ride home from the SPITS run, started innocently enough but ended with the worst winter conditions I’ve ever encountered on a motorcycle. Continue reading Home in a Hurry, Part 2 (through snow?)
Home in a Hurry, Part 1
It’s Sunday and I’m headed back home from the SPITS run. I have another party to attend on the east coast (Chesapeake Bay) and want to arrive there this coming Friday. I also need to swing by the house and pick up Karen for this trip. That demands more riding and less sightseeing. Continue reading Home in a Hurry, Part 1
California at Last
Compared to the last few days, the last ~350 mile ride into California was pretty uneventful. It was still a very enjoyable ride. Continue reading California at Last
