Apex

On a Bike (especially when racing), you look for the Apex of a corner or the point closest to the curb/shoulder between the entry and exit of a corner. “Hitting the apex” correctly helps carry speed through a corner… and is a hell of a lot of fun.

Apes

Very tall handlebars commonly found on cruisers or choppers.

ADV

Abbreviation for “adventure”. ADV means both a kind of Bike and a kind of riding. ADV bikes can be ridden on- and off-road and are often called “dual sport bikes” or “adventure bikes.” A ride on such a bike is often called an “ADV ride” and there are countless ADV groups, websites, clubs, etc.

Wrenching

To perform maintenance, add modifications, or fix something on your motorcycle. Literally, to “turn wrenches” on it. A motorcycle mechanic can also be known as a “wrench”.

AGATT

Abbreviation for All Gear, All The Time. This is a common mantra for bikers who insist on wearing their protective gear in all conditions, no matter how uncomfortable it may get.

Poser

A person who adopts the persona of a biker without really knowing what they’re doing. Full discussion here.

Cager

A derogatory term for a person in a car, insinuating that they are not free but in a cage.

Slab

A interstate highway or any other four-lane (minimum), divided, limited access highway. Usually shunned by motorcyclists, but a necessary evil if you have to get someplace fast.
