CapeDisappointmentNorthHeadClosup

A closer view of the North Head lighthouse at Cape Disappointment State Park on the Pacific Ocean coast near the mouth of the Columbia River. The North Head Lighthouse was built in 1898 in response to a marked increase in the number of shipwrecks along Cape Disappointment as mariners coming from the north could not see the Cape Disappointment until they were dangerously close to the sand bars in the area. When I walked the beach later that night, its rotating beam of light over the beach cast an eerie mood.
